Ok I've been a bit quiet lately but a lot's been going on chook-wize. We starteds our chicken experience with 3 Hamburgs, and all was fine and dandy for a month. Then one day at about 3pm I noticed one was missing! It was 'Yellow' (leg band). She was the most friendly and unafraid of the 3.
So 'Yellow' somehow someway walked off the job out of our lives. That was 2 weeks ago. Anyone report a stray hamburg chicken? I didn't think so. The other two took a week to settle down and are now laying a regular 10-11 a week (2 chooks).
Free range is alright to a point, but Yellow has broken through the boundary of what's acceptable.
We haven't held a memorial service yet - she may turn up bedraggled - and pod on regardless.
ANYONE HAVE SOME SHAVERS?
Brian

Green has returned! She was just across the road going solo on a feral career beside the neightbour's bamboo clump. They'd put out some water for her. Ruth's gone over there now to see if they're home to thank them. We will still let the three of them out each day from midday til 5 or so. We've installed a 3ft high fence (25mm square welded mesh) along our side boundary and around the vegie garden. So I think they'll be better contained now.
