Waitakere New Energy Fare

Hi all, I note our group membership is now at 46. Would be interested if any of these people saw the article in the Sept Titirangi Tatler and found out about Ooooby through this. The next Fare is on September 20 and I am putting a plea out to our group to get more involved in the Fare. I have manned the stall for 3 months and have mainly had potted plants to offer as swaps. In August Daniel & Mandy came along and brought some oranges and grapefruit and eggs, which was just wonderful, and I swapped them some plants and bamboo. Since then Daniel has painted an Ooooby banner for the stall, which I am yet to collect, thanks heaps Daniel. People love the idea of the swap stall, so it needs to be fresh and interesting with lots of people involved. Those who are manning have the benefit of the swaps, and it is a great way to promote Ooooby. It was more difficult over the winter, but now with the warmer weather, vege plants are coming along, and seedlings are great items to swap, as well as preserves, jams, chutney citrus, eggs, herbs etc. etc. The Fare hours are from 10-3pm on a Sunday, so would love a roster of people, for 1 or 2 hour slots - just whatever suits. Any volunteers for September please? I will have plants there, but can't commit to the whole day. Please add to this discussion.

  • Hi Brian

Thank you for your comments about the Fare and I hope the Tatler article provided you with further clairty. Did you get a chance to meet Paul Larkin and see his free energy device? Information stalls relating to water conservation and representation from local Transition Town Groups ,were informative too.

Whilst I understand that the term New Energy is used as a term in the field of Energy Generation, it is also a term which is emerging in the wellness and sustainble living space too.

Hopefully the Aura spray is not not the only thing you have taken away with you, from your first new energy fare experience :)))

The intent is for you to come and treat yourself to (or sample) a variety of wellness and sustainble living "fare" provided on the 3rd sunday of the month.

Looking forward to seeing you next month and warm regards
    Litsa
  • I did get to meet the new owner of Earth Seed Organics in Glen Eden. I told her I was looking for the Ooooby stall and as she didn't know about it I explained about it a bit, and she said they do sell some local privately-grown produce at her store. So I bought some pears.
  • Hi Brian, if you send me your email address, I will send you the rationale of the Fare, and my Tatler articles. I'm not up with the Aura spray, sounds a bit hocus pocus. The providers change from Fare to Fare, the Farmers Market was only new this month, and is organised by a separate organiser to the Fare. This was very successful in bringing people along, so I think it will be much more successful in the future. The Ooooby stall was right next to the coffee.

At first I thought the "new energy" fare/fair to be concerned with soft-tech (sustainable, local) and low-tech (cheap, easily maintained) power-generating ideas. But of course that's not what it's about at all. What is the meaning of 'fare'? I thought it was to get along, to succeed.

So I went up there anyway as you said there'd be an Ooooby stall, and saw there was the Farmers Market as well in the car park area.
We don't get the Tatler delivered even though we're so close to the Village, which is thoroughtly annoying, and I didn't get to read your Tatler article.
I thought looked at all the produce stalls, and even went into the hall, and at the entrance only noted the coffee man, a pottery experience stall, and ... no I just didn't see you, sorry.

I like that the event has been extended to include sustainability workshops and the produce market. Inside the hall was pretty scary. I was amused and then shocked by the "aura spray". Well, so that's what a Fare is nowadays. How will they fare when the oil runs out, I found myself wondering ;)

  • Oh what a shame Brian! We were there, outside by the entrance to the hall, with Daniel's new big Ooooby sign on the table. It was a much bigger crowd (especially in the morning) due to the new Farmers Market, so I think it will be quite successful from now on, I had Lorraine Barnett and Helen Doherty helping for some of the day. I think there will be more swapping happening next month, but it was great to have some people turn up who had read my article in the Tatler, armed with swaps, and Daniel and Mandy also came along.

Fiona, I went to the fare at 1.30pm armed with a swap, but didn't see the Ooooby swap stall. Was it there? I guess I was just too late! Curses. Well I bought a whole lot of stuff anyway.

  • Hi Rebecca, sorry, me foolishly assuming everyone would know this. It is held in Titirangi War Memorial Hall, South Titirangi Rd with many stallholders offering alternative health therapies, and others sustainability concepts. Every Fare day a programme of workshops is also held in the Community Centre in the carpark. From September, a produce market in the carpark will add further interest to the Fare.
