Hi, my young girls have just starting laying. The first ones were laying about 10am and then making noises about it. Now one more has started laying but at 5am and making a racket, and the rest have all decided to get in on the early morning laying and subsequent noise making. I am worried my neighbours will complain to the council. How do I get them to lay later or at least be quiet about it!! It sounds impossible I think!!

Well I passed some eggs over the fence, and apologised for the early morning noise, and guess what, the hens heard me, and stopped making their early morning fuss! Go figure!!!
I find most of the squawking (apart from the "Hey everybody, I just laid an egg!!!" bit) seems to be because they all want to use a particular nestbox, no matter how many you supply. Mind you, my lot stopped laying a month ago because they're all moulting and they've gotten very quiet now ;)
