  • I have water kefir grains, looking for a swap for milk kefir grains

  • Hi linda i have kefir grains

  • Checkout at the Library, Michael Pollan's latest book, Cooked.

Key to his message is that, for a new food system to take hold, the best thing any of us can do is home cooking.  Sounds good, and tasty, to me!

  • Hi All. Does anyone in the Manawatu have any spare kefir grains? Or want any pink fir apple potatoes as seed for next year? They're delicious, high yielding, and comparatively resistant to wireworms and disease. My favourite so far. But I'd also love toget hold of some Russett Burbank seed too, if anyone has any. Cheers,

  • Yes, Brent, CSA is the 'way to go' for anybody wanting to eat local, but yet feeling constrained by space and/or time to 'do their own.' You get to have a relationship with 'your farmer' and get good food to boot. Go for it, y'all!
  • Community Supported Agriculture - a quick note to say that CSA Wellington now serves Palmerston North as well.  A subscription based farm in the Wairarapa that produces and provides weekly allotments of organic fruit and veg.  If you're an 'aspirational Ooooby guru' but still getting to grips with your own food production, this is about as good as it gets for bought food.  we use it to top up what we get from our small vege patch and chickens.

  • Kia Ora fellow urban, suburban and rural gardners, sustainability gurus all.  A bit of a cross post here.  If you are keen to help Palmy move toward a smart green future, the PN City Environmental Trust is looking for a few new team members with vision and energy.  All voluntary, all fun.  Drop me a line if you're keen to find out a bit more, and in the meanwhile happy gardening into the coming spring.
  • Garage sale today - cheap and good:  20 Lombard Street, Palmerston North. Till 2 pm.
  • thanks Dianne it would be good to have them onboard.
  • Herb Farm is a great idea, but are they members yet? Thanks if you'd like to invite them here to join us.....

What's New for You in the Manawatu?

Here's a spot to expand on these themes, based on What's New for You in the Manawatu:   1)  With spring coming on, what new fruit/vegie/herb are you planning to grow, this year?   2)  What new distribution opportunity, large or small, are you planning?  E.g. a Palmy Farmers' Market stall, taking your excess produce to give out at work, starting a CSA, etc.   3)  What new info do you have to share?  E.g., a particularly good gardening, cooking, or foodie book you've read, an informative film…

Whats growing in your garden?

Hi Team, Just thought I'd get the discussion rolling I've been harvesting.. Leeks, Parsnip, carrot, beetroot, celery, bok choi, lettuce (green house) the first broccolli is nearly ready to pick and spinach isn't too far away either :-) I've planted more brassicas seedlings (cabbage, cauli, broccolli and kale) and seeds of beetroot, and spinach. Will probably put in some early carrots soon. The Tamarillos and mandarins are ready but the oranges have been a bit knocked by the cold this winter.…
