"I am gobsmacked that our supermarkets can charge $14.99/kg for feijoa, when growers only receive $3/kg. This mark up is outrageous; and the fruit when it gets to the shelves, is appalling (as a grower I'd suggest over a week old). This year,…"

Gillian Stewart commented on Pete Russell's blog post Do you pass through Grey Lynn On-The-Way home?
"Great idea! and it would also be really cool if (from the growers end) we could introduce a similar system for sharing the delivery of the produce to Grey Lynn HQ from our respective localities. We also talked abiout putting stuff on the train...…"

Hello Gillian, welcome to ooooby.
Wish I had your problem of surplus figs :) Never had a the indulgence of a glut of figs although have fond childhood memories of eating them straight off a neighbour's tree in their Mangere garden competing with the wasps and bees. There are loads of websites with fig recipes http://recipes.epicurean.com/recipe_results.jsp?title=Fig
http://www.inmamaskitchen.com/RECIPES/RECIPES/Basics/jms_preserves/figs_pickled.html
http://www.mangerati.com/preserved-figs
the last two links for pickled and preserved figs look particularly tasty.
Feijoa and date chutney is a favourite of mine, I'm sure that it would be equally delicious substituting dried figs for dates. Let me know if you want the recipe.
