But we are more about whats better for the bees, we are worried that as the hive heats up the plastic may give off fumes.

Yes I would look at requeening the hive, not sure where you located. But this may be a task better suited for early spring. Not the end of summer, the bees may not have enough time to create a new queen.

"I'd be careful putting either in the compost, you may find you have an ever bigger overabundance. I use both to stabilise clay banks and suppress weeds then make tea with the balm and hedge cut it when it threatens to take over the world."

- I like to grow fruit and veges mostly. We have a normal sized section so I can only fit so many fruit trees. I have a bee hive in the back yard also and I would love to have some chickens but I'm not sure if I have room.
