I have herb gardens growing for the Herb Spread: 5 x 24m x 1.5m rows in Onetangi. It's a bit exposed there though and i can only grow rosemary in the summer. Good in Winter. At home I have a 16 year old orchard planted by moi with three months solid worth of fruit; peaches, apples, pears, feijoas, bananas, etc. etc. In winter we concentrate on our vege garden which is too hot to grow much in summer. Watering always a problem on Waiheke...

cheap herbs

Hi, - want a quick and cheap herb garden? Instead of buying potted herbs from the garden centre which may cost you up to $1ea, buy the potted kitchen herbs from your supermarket. These only cost $2.45ea, and you get about 12 plants in each pot!

How lovely to see your patch - I've known about it for long enough, and now I get to see it. Next step - smell it :-) Nice to see you here Wendy

Wow Wendy, it is interesting to see how people and their plants cope with different climates, I have had a rosemary plant which has struggled here because it gets too wet and not warm enough ( I think) and has slowly diminished in size because I pick it faster than it regrows. this year I started with a new seedling and have planted it in an old washing machine tub, hoping it might like the heat from the metal and the raised roots, we shall see. love rosemary in stews, on roast potatoes and on foccachia bread mostly. do you have possums on waiheke? they devasted my damson tree this year, the green plums are still hanging in there on the outer branches but the poor thing has little leaf left and lots of broken branches. :(
