I love my garden

When we first moved into our house the gardens were appalling.

A huge compost pile was on the site I wanted to start a veggie plot and it took me months of hard work to clear the area. Which is not surprising because I found 3 Xmas trees in the mess.

The front of the house was no better - thank goodness for my husband who dug out the huge ginger plants so now we see the light.

On a very limited budget I am proud of our gardens. Almost everything is from cuttings from family and friends The next step is to add colour and make the more public areas into a cottage style garden for fresh cutting flowers for gifts and a veggie plot which will give us enough so we do not have to buy any veggies and produce my own jams and preserves.

My $20 Greenhouse

Sometimes, you try things that just don't work for example:

In this case - it took up only a small area, keeps the tomato plants nice and warm however it kept falling over in strong winds. Pointless!!!!!

Step 1. Sorting out the materials, the only cost was the plastic everything else is recycled.

Step 2. Will the layout work?…

Converting to Square Foot Gardening

Looks like I will be feeding the whole neighbourhood, at the rate that the plants are going in the the ground at the moment.

Planted out - fancy lettuce (I love the stuff), spinach, spring onions, radicchio, swede, cabbages this adds to the 2 other sorts of cabbage, bok choi, red onions, carrots, cauliflower, silverbeet, peas, marigolds, nasturtium and of course lettuce that I planted last week (told you I loved the stuff).

That's the problem when you convert over to the… Continue

Hi

Are you still in Oooby, I am from Mangere.

I work in James Cook and Alfriston College as a reliever, and I want to connect with the local vege growers.

I will have spare yacon soon and I have spare eggs.

I am looking for fruits.

Also I want to add goats to my livestock, and I am looking to people who may want to goat service to clean the area, or something else related to goats.

Ooooby-versity in your area would be great. How far are you from Auckland city?

Hi Debbie, I have started a group on preserving, Preserving Your Surplus. I am having trouble getting photos on to that page. I have asked for help on this. the photos are on my page at present. I am writing up about bottling on the group page in instalments.
